Position Summary:
Suncoast Metals, LLC is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Semi / Roll-Off Truck Driver to join our growing recycling and scrap metal operation. This position is responsible for operating roll-off trucks and semi-trucks to transport scrap metal containers, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently between customer locations, yards, and processing facilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating commercial vehicles in industrial environments, maintain strong customer service skills, and follow all DOT, FMCSA, company safety, and yard procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate roll-off trucks and semi-trucks safely and professionally.
- Deliver, exchange, and pick up roll-off containers at customer locations.
- Transport scrap metal materials between yards, processors, and customers.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure loads are properly secured and compliant with DOT regulations.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, scale tickets, inspection reports, and delivery paperwork.
- Communicate with dispatch, yard personnel, and customers regarding schedules and delivery status.
- Follow all FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Safely maneuver in tight spaces around heavy equipment and active yard operations.
- Inspect containers and equipment for damage or safety concerns.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned truck.
- Assist with yard operations when needed.
- Represent Suncoast Metals professionally at all times.
Qualifications:
- Valid CDL Class A license required.
- Clean driving record preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
- Roll-off or dump trailer experience preferred.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and physical.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service requirements.
- Ability to safely secure irregular and heavy scrap metal loads.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb in and out of trucks and containers frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to safely work around heavy equipment, loaders, forklifts, and active traffic.
Work Environment:
This position operates in outdoor scrapyard, industrial, customer, and roadway environments. Employees may be exposed to dust, noise, heavy equipment, uneven surfaces, and changing weather conditions.
